Cafe de l’Orangerie (1320 West 73rd Avenue, Vancouver, BC)
Cafe de l’Orangeris is a Japanese fusion restaurant that combines a unique twist of Japanese cuisine along with a Italian pasta style creativity. It’s a small restaurant located in Marpole area of Vancouver. It is located on the corner of west 73rd avenue and Hudson Street (close to Marine Drive).
The staff is so friendly and they always serve you with a smile. Their service is very good and they always make sure you are well taken care of. This restaurant always has a long lineup so make sure you arrive early. They only take reservations if your party is 4 people or more. Try them out and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.
Curry Style Poutine – costs $6.95 (small) and $12.95 (large). It was definitely a different experience with the curry sauce drenched with fries. The flavour of the curry was phenomenal and it paired up with the fries and cheese curds very well.
Octopus Karate (Deep Fried Octopus) – costs $7.95 and it was really crispy and tender. The octopus was cooked well and the flavour is quite strong. However, I found the pieces too big and I’d rather each piece be cut into smaller bite size pieces. It was kind of hard to share when the octopus was cut fairly large. Nonetheless, the texture of the meat was soft and perfectly cooked with a hint of chewiness.
Hayashi Beef Stew and Creamy Spaghetti with Hamburger Steak – costs $14.95 and my partner ordered this to try for the first time. The beef stew sauce is not super strong in flavour and it’s nice and thick so you can mix it up wth the rice. The hamburger is quite soft though so it was kind of awkward since we expected the texture to be more dense. But nonetheless, this dish is quite popular and it fills you up.
Hayashi Beef Stew Special – costs $15.25 and the portion is quite big for the price. It comes with ” one hamburger and 2 prawns” My partner’s father ordered this one and it appeared to be pretty good. The beef stew sauce is not super strong in flavour and it’s nice and thick so you can mix it up wth the rice. The prawns are a little over cooked but the tempura panko flakes were quite soft and crunchy; the outer batter was perfect and light. The hamburger is the same as the spaghetti one below so it is also very soft and tender on the inside when you bite into it.
House Special Clams and shrimp pasta – costs $15.50 and the portion is probably enough to save as leftovers for another meal. They are quite generous when it comes to portion size and there are tons of clams and shrimps in the pasta. They serve it with a cream sauce and it tastes quite light as well.
Masago de creamy spaghetti – costs $10.80 and the portion is huge with lots of masago mixed into the pasta. If you’re a masago lover like me, then you would enjoy eating this pasta. The pasta has squid and mushrooms in it along with a cream sauce. It doesn’t have the “fishy” taste/scent from the squid and masago. This pasta is mixed so well together.
Blueberry Cheesecake tart – costs $4.95 and this is one of the fluffiest cheesecake I ever ate! This tart is so fluffy and soft in the middle. It’s not your original cheesecake texture at all, it’s 100X better!!!! Usually, regular cheesecakes are really heavy and dense so you can’t eat too much but this baby, THIS IS THE REAL DEAL! IT’S SOOOOOOO DELICIOUS. It’s not overly sweet so the sweetness is perfect for such a light dessert.
Matcha Cheesecake tart – costs $4.95 and this is definitely not fluffy. Instead, this Matcha cheesecake is very dense and bitter. They added too much matcha too the batter and it did not turn out sweet and smooth at all. It was slightly disappointing to find out that their signature matcha cheesecake wasn’t actually that appetizing.
