NAMMOS ESTIATORIO (3980 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC)
Nammos Estiatorio is a greek restaurant located on Fraser Street and East 24th Ave. For all you ice cream lovers, this elegant greek restaurant is next door to the famous Earnest Ice Cream shop. Nammos is a fairly big restaurant as opposed to other smaller greek tavernas in the lower mainland. The restaurant is able to seat quite a number of people and it’s not a loud environment either. Given the large space, you would think it would be loud with everyone talking but when we were there at the beginning of our meal, the restaurant was only a quarter full. During the end of our dinner, the restaurant is full and all the tables were taken but yet the environment was not very loud and we could still hear each other speak.
We were a table of 3 and we had no difficulties listening to each other given this large restaurant space. People around us were also talking as well but nobody’s voices around you overlapped your own table. People were very polite in there and everyone just spoke in their regular volume. There is no need to yell across the table to get your message across.
The services at Nammos was great. They always made sure you are taken care of and you don’t have to exactly flag someone down for certain requests. They check up on you every once in a while to make sure everything is fine. Their food service is a little different from other restaurants as you don’t have an option for requesting food to arrive all together at your table. They are very strict on their food quality and that is what makes them a good restaurant. Food is served once they are prepared from the kitchen and that is always the best way to enjoy your food. That way, you won’t have to worry about your food getting over-cooked under the heat lamp in the kitchen.
Overall, I really enjoyed eating at Nammos and I will definitely be back for a second round to try out other items on their menu. I recommend this restaurant to Greek cuisine lovers out there who are ready to dig in for a new food adventure.
Here is a photo of their menu. We went there at night so the restaurant’s lighting was a bit dimmer to suit the nice ambient atmosphere. As you can see, the prices on the menu are not too expensive and the portions are decently sized.
Grilled Octopus – costs $15.00 and it was an interesting dish to try for the first time. The sauce on the bottom was a vinaigrette drip with grilled octopus on the top. The octopus was quite tender and soft so they did not over-cook it at all. It was a nice chewy texture with a hint of softness. I wouldn’t order it again as it wasn’t exceptionally good but it was just a nice dish to try for the first time if you haven’t had grilled octopus before.
Nikos Burger – costs $16.00 and the burger comes with a side of fries. The burger is nicely marinated with a hint of heat when you bite into the meat. The kick of spiciness added more flavour to the burger itself and made it EXCEPTIONALLY good. Their fries is no ordinary fries as they used fresh cut potatoes and shaped them into long thin strips to make fries. The fries is so fresh and soft with a nice chewy texture to it as you eat it.
Moussaka – costs $16.00 and the portion is quite filling for a simple dish. Moussaka is a greek lasagna that replaces their pasta with egg plant strips and layers the lasagna with ground beef, potatoes, zucchini and eggplant. The sauce on the bottom of the dish is a tomato-based sauce. This Moussaka is by far the best greek lasagna I have ever eaten. I have tried this dish at other greek restaurants but nobody made it as good as Nammos. I am pride to say that I highly recommend this to anyone who have never had a healthy lasagna before.
Roasted Lamb – costs $24.00 and it is served on a sizzling hot plate! I loved how it came out on a cast iron sizzling hot plate, it made the experience more unique and the dish seems more special. I am not a lamb fan so I don’t exactly like to eat lamb but this dish was so tender and the meat just falls off the bone. The lamb tastes quite “gamy” so for those of you who like lamb, this would definitely be on your list of food to try.
